Ground source heat pumps (GSHP) involve pipes containing liquid and antifreeze installed deep underground or in a borehole that draws heat from the earth. The extracted heat is transferred to a heat exchanger which builds up the liquid temperature before it enters into the property. GSHP’s can warm up radiators, underfloor heating systems (UFH) and water.
A 3-bed new build property in Cornwall with space for a Ground Source Heat pump. The customer’s choice was a KENSA system incorporating a Ground Array (Slinkys) to the side of the main house. We worked with the property owner/self- builder to install the system in stages and at their pace. The installation is ongoing.
Air source heat pumps are not dissimilar to ground source heat pumps. Though, instead of drawing heat from the earth, ASHPs extract heat from the air surrounding your home. Like GSHPs, ASHP units have the capacity to warm up underfloor heating systems, water and radiators.
The customer opted to replace an ageing Air to Water Heat Pump, which was linked to existing under floor heating (UFH) and Unvented cylinder. As the UFH was from a specific manufacturer the customer had already contacted them and been advised as to the type and model of heat pump replacement. This was a NIBE 8kw Monobloc System with a 100L Buffer Tank and 300L Unvented Hot Water Cylinder. It was a tight fit due to the addition of the buffer tank.
